Absent significa que alguien está ausente, por ejemplo:
She is absent. (Ella está ausente)
She is absent, she is in the hospital. (Ella está ausente, ella está en el hospital)
I was absent yesterday. I had to go to the doctor. (Estuve ausente ayer. Tuve que ir al doctor)
You were absent from class. (Te ausentaste de la clase)
He was absent. He had to go to the dentist. (Él estaba ausente. Él tuvo que ir al dentista)
They are absent today. That’s strange! (Ellos están ausentes hoy. ¡Eso es extraño!)
We were absent because we had to visit our brother at the hospital. (Nosotros estuvimos ausentes porque tuvimos que visitar a nuestro hermano en el hospital)
