El infinitivo (infinitive) de un verbo se utiliza acompañando a un verbo y completar la información de la oración.
- She wants to see him. (Ella quiere verlo)
- I want to dance with you. (Yo quiero bailar con ella)
- We will be glad to help you with your homework. (Estaremos encantados de ayudarte con tu tarea)
- I tried to call her. (Traté de llamarla)
- He went there to learn German. (Él fue allí para aprender alemán)
- We prefer to eat at home. (Nosotros preferimos comer en casa)
- They forgot to buy the book. (Ellos olvidaron comprar el libro)
- I don’t want to buy it because it is expensive. (Yo no lo quiero comprar porque es caro)
- We expect to leave at 12 o’clock. (Nosotros esperamos partir a las 12)
- I am studying to get a good mark. (Yo estoy estudiando para obtener una buena nota)
También, para completar la información acompañando adjetivos y adverbios en una oración.
- It is impossible to open the door. (Es imposible abrir la puerta)
- It is easy to play tennis. (Es fácil jugar tenis)
- It is possible to do it. (Es posible hacerlo)
- The exercises are easy to do. (Los ejercicios son fáciles de hacer)
- He is too weak to do it. (Él es muy débil para hacerlo)
- It was impossible to sell the old house. (Fue imposible vender la vieja casa)
- It is hard to do it. (Es difícil de hacer)
- It is very important to learn a second language. (Es muy importante aprender un segundo idioma)
- The workout was easy to do. (El ejercicio fue fácil de hacer)
- I was happy to see you. (Yo estaba feliz de verte)
- Please, come quickly to help me. (Por favor, ven rápido a ayudarme)
Y, para expresar la idea de propósito se puede escribir el infinitivo solo o después de in order.
- They went to see their friend. (Ellos fueron a ver a su amigo)
- She went there in order to study with him. (Ella fue allí para estudiar con él)
- We went there in order to get a new license. (Nosotros fuimos allí para conseguir una nueva licencia)
- I came early in order to get good seats. (Yo llegué temprano para conseguir un buen asiento)
- Did she need to speak English in order to get a better job? (¿Ella necesitó hablar inglés para conseguir un mejor trabajo?)
